Ghostwriting & editing

With more than a decade’s experience in editing and writing, and now as a member of the Association of Ghostwriters, I can help you to tell your story while staying true to your voice. Whether it’s a true-life personal account that you’re ready to share, or a work of fiction, I can help you reach the next stage of your writing journey.

Simply knowing where to start can be a challenge, or perhaps you’ve gotten lost in the middle and can’t see your way to the end. Having written a speculative fiction book of my own while still in full-time work, I well understand the grit required and, frankly, the agony involved in turning that spark of an idea into a novel-length story which is gripping and yet paced so the drama flows off every page naturally.

So, whether you’ve got a completed manuscript that needs a professional edit, a manuscript in draft that requires a developmental edit, or just a set of ideas tumbling through your mind waiting to be captured, I can work with you as your editor or ghostwriter to take your project to the next level.

I’m particularly interested in helping aspiring or published authors from any walk of life to share real-life experiences or professional expertise, as well as commercial fiction projects across a number of genres, including speculative fiction – science fiction/utopian/dystopian and supernatural fiction in particular – suspense/thrillers, mysteries and horror.

How I can help

Developmental edit – when you’ve got the full story down on paper and you know/suspect there are issues to address, but you need a fresh pair of eyes to help you see how to take it forward.

A professional edit – when you’ve got a manuscript that’s fairly well developed and you want a professional eye to give it a thorough edit and make suggestions to consider before you send it to an agent or self publish.

Proofreading – if you just want literals, punctuation and grammar to be tidied up before you publish.

Ghostwriting in part or full – when you have a story that you’re ready to share, but don’t have the time to plan and/or write it yourself, or you’ve perhaps got part of it written (or even just notes) and need help to finish the project.

Next steps & pricing

You’ve come this far, so what next? If you’re interested in learning more about my ghostwriting services, the easiest next step would be to obtain a free no obligation consultation with me by filling out the short form below or on my contact page to assess where you’re at with your project and what your budget is. Every project is individually priced because every project is different – for example, you may have an idea that is all in your head, which will require more work, or you may have part of your book written but need help to finish it. Once you’ve filled out the form and following some further information gathering, if you’re happy with the suggested way forward, price and timeline, work will start once a contract is signed.

My fees for editing and proofreading projects are considerably cheaper in comparison, but again, will vary depending on the type and length of each project. As a general guide, I charge £24 an hour for proofreading, £27 an hour for a professional edit and £30 an hour for a developmental edit. In consultation with you, I will work out how long your project is likely to take so that I can give you a flat fee price. Then, if you are happy with the arrangement, we will agree it in writing and you will receive a deadline for completion. To find out more about my editing and proofreading services, email me at editorialventures@gmail.com or, if you prefer to have an initial chat about your needs, you can call me on 07905 358383.
